Russell Brand and Dalai Lama ‘Buddhist Besties’?
Well Sort Of!
Russell Brand and spiritual Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama will be sharing the staff at an upcoming event in Manchester England.
On June 16, the Dalai Lama will address thousands of young people at the Manchester Evening News Arena and Brand himself, will going the Buddhist icon as a ‘master of ceremonies.
Brand was chosen for this honour as trust officials wanted to highlight how the comedian beat his drug and alcohol problems by turning to his spiritual side.
A representative of the Dalai Lama; Thubten Samdup stated:
“We are delighted to have Russell Brand as master of ceremonies for this once-in-a-lifetime event. Russell has demonstrated the power of spirituality to effect change in his own life. Change begins from within, from the grassroots up, one person at a time. So, in addition to meeting Presidents and Prime Ministers, His Holiness the Dalai Lama believes that it is essential to inspire ordinary citizens — especially young people — to find meaning and purpose in their lives.”
Although Brand is primarily known for his outrageous comments and comedic roles, he has also often discussed being sober and how giving up drugs and alcohol helped him tap into his spiritual side, so I do believe he will do a remarkable job. Good luck Rus!
