Nicki Minaj vs Peter Rosenburg: The Saga Continues…
This whole situation gives me a head ache, but lets give it a go .
After Rosenburg declared that Nicki Minaj isn’t real hip hop at Summer Jam, Minaj then refused to perform at the event after Lil Wayne made the call tweeting “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”. Minaj then confirmed this news by tweeting ”Wow. U niggaz just fucked up history. But the President has spoken.#YMCMB” (She is referencing Lil Wayne, not Obama). Summer Jam were not impressed by the decision as 55000 fans sat there in disappointment after DJ Peter Rosenburg declared on stage that she isn’t real hip hop and said he knows that some “chicks are here waiting to sing starships later, I’m not talking to you right know, f*ck that bullsh*t”. He then declared he will not apologise as he has been stating this for ’6 months’ and will not change his stance for ‘Summer Jam’. (First of all, does anyone know who this Rosenburg DJ is, because i have never heard of him until now). Anyway this fiasco has been continuing for a number of days and during MTV News, correspondent Sway Calloway shared the hosting duties for the night with Ed Lover and Doctor Dre who had their thoughts on the situation. Ed Lover said:
“You can’t look at anybody that crosses over and achieves pop appeal as a sellout, because that’s what you’re trying to do when you put a record out…So if Nicki Minaj ain’t real hip-hop, then Public Enemy wasn’t real hip-hop, then Run-DMC wasn’t real hip-hop, then Eminem ain’t real hip-hop “
Doctor Dre then commented on Young Money pulling the act from the festival:
“First of all, Nicki Minaj was the only one who ruined 55,000 fans’ expectations of the night. It has nothing to do with Rosenberg. You go out there and you perform for your fans,” he said.
Couldn’t agree with you more Dre! Although Rosenburg probably shouldn’t have said what he said, what Nicki Minaj should of done (and what i thought she would do) was go out perform amazingly and tell Rosenburg to well.. you know what. In The MTV Special Dre also went on to argue against Rosenburg saying ”We have too many what I call ‘semi-super experts’ who always try to redefine hip-hop from its infancy… You make your record and get in the ring and let’s see how you react, whether you start to sell out or not.” Well Dre has spoken! And it’s true, Nicki Minaj has many hip hop records but as her music has progressed she has released many songs that being more the ‘pop’ family and these are the records which have had the most success.
